So I got a very very cheap KU subscription three months ago--it was $0.99 for three months, which is insane--and I checked out some books on KU and meditated on whether getting KU full price is really worth it. Here are my conclusions:

1. KU usually costs $10 per month. If you can read enough books that they would cost more than $10 (as ebooks) in the month, it's technically fiscally worth it. Which I can. But

2. Knowing you have to MAKE the KU subscription count prevents you from reading other books you have acquired, which puts you way behind on your TBR.

3. It is pretty sweet, tho, bc I watch WOCinRomance on Twitter and every week they give like ten new releases by WOC and a lot of the time some of them are on KU. I also subscribe to the I Heart Lesfic newsletter, which gives new lesfic releases, and a lot of those are on KU too. So. Gives me a chance to try the new stuff I hear about that I usually couldn't afford.

4. But again, I paid very little for this. I don't think I'd be willing to pay full price for KU considering the number of KU books I actually read.

So, what did I read? Well, a lot of books I DNF'ed, but the books I finished are below.

-Daisy Crown by Olivia Lark: Historical f/f romance set in 1870 in midwest America. Cute. Maid/employer but they're also childhood friends. A lot of loyalty and such. Usually would have cost $3. Pretty good.

-No Strings Attached by Mina V. Esguerra: Contemporary m/f romance set in the Philippines. FMC having an early midlife crisis just wants a commitment free relationship, damn it! Usually would have cost $3. Very good.

-Small Town Secrets by Katrina Jackson: Contemporary m/m/f romance set in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Fluffy as hell, cop/fireman/baker OT3. Usually would have cost $1. Very good.

-The Winter Prince by Elizabeth Wein: Historical fantasy centered around Mordred. SO MUCH WHUMP and angst and trauma. Usually would have cots $8. Very good.

-Rocky Road by Anna Cove: Contemporary f/f romance with a racecar driver and an easygoing woman who gets hit by a car in an unrelated but slightly related accident. Usually would have cost $5. Not bad.

-Be Mine by Savannah J. Frierson: Contemporary m/m/m/f romance (except the guys are really just into the woman). Woman gets together with her housemates bc of Valentine's Day and reasons. Usually would have cost $3. Decent but too much sex for me.

-Aaaand the first eight books of the Criminal Intentions series by Cole McCade. Procedural mystery series with a slow-burn m/m romance in the background. Phenomenal, I love it. Usually each book would have cost $4.

Overall that means that I usually would have spent $55 on these books. Sooooo... the deal I got was pretty insane, I'll be looking out for it to come around again. Technically that would have been worth it even for the usual $30, but the problem with that kind of math is it assumes I would have bought these books without having KU. Which I wouldn't have. Most I probably would have just pined after from a distance, and I would have gotten The Winter Prince out at the library bc it's relatively common.

Anyways my main takeaway is I'm gonna be going back to my normal TBR now (the ebooks I've bought or downloaded for free, library books, etc), but I will probably get KU again when McCade has released more of the Criminal Intentions series bc they were what made getting KU actually worth it. NOTHING LIKE A BINGE.
