convenientalias And once again it is Yuletide! It's me, ConvenientAlias on AO3. (Also convenientalias on tumblr.) I'm requesting Asian dramas again this year, some with fandoms smaller than others. All of which I love and am very excited to receive fic for.
I'm listing some general likes and some more specific prompts, but don't feel constrained to write what I've prompted. These fandoms are very small and dear to me, and I'm intrigued to see what you'll come up with.

Mr. Sunshine is a 24-episode historical kdrama set in the 1900s. It's about a man who left Korea as a boy, who returns many years later as an American diplomat. Korea is in a difficult situation politically in this time period, with many countries (Japan and the US being the major players in this show) trying to gain control over it. The show follows several characters who have conflicted relationships with their country, and shows them becoming more invested in Korea's independence. You can watch it on Netflix, or here.
I'm requesting Eugene, the Korean-American main character! One of my favorite things about the show is his feelings on both the USA and Korea. He says many times that he is an American now (and takes full diplomatic advantage of this fact) but ultimately gets very invested in fighting for Korea at Go Ae-sin's side. Also, he's just so damn shippable.
DNW: Eugene/That missionary whose name I can't remember right now. You know, the one who was like a brother to him. ...I'll be back.
Some ideas:
-A day in the life at the American embassy. Eugene doing politics. Discussing politics with Kyle. Do Mi and the interpreter getting up to shenanigans. Minister Allen being a bitch. All that good stuff.
-Anything about Eugene's thoughts on his American or Korean identity. Or both. Both is good.
-Eugene/Gu Dong-mae. After reading Ae-sin's letter, Dong-mae says he will kill Eugene if he ever sees him with another piece of paper in his hand; I would love to see this kind of confrontation happen. Or Dong-mae realizing Eugene can't read Korean lols. Alternatively, something from around the time Eugene saves Dong-mae from prison. Alternatively, just anything delivering some raw foe yay, especially if it involves either character getting whumped.
-Eugene/Kudo Hina. Poor Hina never really had a chance with Eugene, but I'd love to read a fic where she did. She's so shady and politically adept, she could advise him in a lot of circumstances. And her dad matchmaking her with him would also be good--what if he had some way to make it stick? Or at least what if circumstances made it convenient for Eugene and Hina to pretend they were courting... and then, who knows what might transpire ;)?
-Eugene/Kim Hui-seong. Everything about this ship is beautiful to me. Hui-seong trying so hard to flirt with Eugene across balconies. The tragedy of falling for (or at least kind of wanting to get along with!) someone and then discovering your grandfather killed their parents. The classy side of me wants bittersweet fic with Eugene and Hui-seong finding common ground or maybe hooking up before they know who each other are; the trashy part of me wants Hui-seong trying to apologize for his family's misdeeds via sex. In general anything about these two being a hot mess would be beautiful.
-Eugene/Go Ae-sin. Obviously this ship is canon. It is very cute and I like it. I like Eugene and Ae-sin being comrades and fighting the good fight together, Ae-sin confronting her pre-held beliefs on social class, the impossibility of them actually being together, the dream of running away together to America, their differences in opinion that grow smaller as they get to know each other and change as a result. Also, Ae-sin freaking out when Eugene doesn't respond to her letter and shoving him against a wall. Fic that deals with any of this would be lovely. I would prefer not pure fluff but some fluff would not go amiss; angst is also good.
-Any poly combination of Eugene, Dong-mae, Hui-seong, Kudo Hina, and Ae-sin would be great too.
-Eugene/Kyle Moore. I don't have very deep thoughts on this ship I just like their Late Night Conversations, and also their lunchtime conversations, and all their other conversations. They're good friends and I like them.
-Any of these ships, I'd also be interested in reading gen fic about. The relationships interest me whether romantic or platonic :)
-I also ship Eugene with almost everyone in the show so if you actually shipped him with idk, Hwang Eun-san or Theodore Roosevelt or something, sure, we can go with that.
-I'd love some hurt/comfort. Eugene is such a stoic guy; what is it like when he lets down his guard and allows someone to help him? Alternatively, Eugene comforting someone would be great, especially someone who doesn't quite trust him. He's such a strong protective presence.
-...that's the comfort side of things, but also. Would I like to see Eugene get whumped? Yes. Very much yes.
My Country: The New Age
Requesting: Nam Seon-ho
My Country is a historical kdrama set in the 1400s, at the time the Goryeo Dynasty was overthrown and the Joseon Dynasty established. It's about two friends who become separated due to betrayals and political circumstances, and how these two become enmeshed in war and political tangles as the years go by. There's a lot of strong friendship, angst, devotion... well, in general a lot of slashiness. And tragedy :( but it hurts so good. dhdoifoheoifojejfjfflkkld
I'm requesting Nam Seon-ho, the bastard son of a rich noble asshole, one half of the show's central tragic bromance. Looking for anything from awful whump to fix-it fic, and shipping him with basically anyone.

-I'm intrigued by Seon-ho's relationship with Nam Jeon. It's like watching a train crash. Tell me about his childhood and how Nam Jeon turned a slave's son, overflowing with emotion and love, into a suave, repressed noble simmering with violence. Yes I am asking for trauma. But also, if you want to write something about how Seon-ho is able to use what Nam Jeon taught him to his advantage, or about ways Seon-ho sees himself as similar to or different from Nam Jeon, I'd be pretty into that too. Also, how does Nam Jeon see Seon-ho? How critical is he; how satisfied is he? How far would he support and protect Seon-ho, and where does his support and protection end? (bc we know it at least ends before Seung-gye. but where's the line?) And how does Seon-ho feel about any of this?
-Seon-ho/Hwi--A ship of beauty and pain. Give me a "blackmailing you for your own good (but also for my own good)" fic. A "we're working for political enemies and you have every reason to hate me but I still care about you" fic. A fix-it fic. Angsty pining miscommunication. Seon-ho trying to protect Hwi, Hwi trying to protect Seon-ho, and neither being properly appreciative of these efforts. Also, STABBING. it is a love language.
-Seon-ho/Bang-won--A ship of ppl who are each other's reflection and who also hate each other. The snide politics. The fact that Bang-won's dad whose approval he actually wants trusts Seon-ho more than him. Bang-won ruining Seon-ho's life; Seon-ho stealing Bang-won's man. Seon-ho on his knees, at Bang-won's mercy, not once in this show but TWICE. Seon-ho barging uninvited into Bang-won's manor a solid THREE TIMES. There's so much chaos here and I want these two to fuck about it. Feelings may or may not be involved.
-Seon-ho/Hwi/Bang-won--Smash the two ships above together and add in Hwi and Bang-won's whole schtick and you get an OT3 I like very much.
-Seon-ho/Sung-rok--Antagonism to complete devotion is a beautiful thing. I know Sung-rok doesn't get a lot of fleshing out in this show, but he's one of the few people Seon-ho trusts, and he never lets Seon-ho down once they've allied themselves. Also, he's totally jealous of Hwi to the point of homicidality. What else could one want? (One could want fic about it.)
-I am very good with darkfic for this show. Dub-con or non-con is okay for any of these ships (or other ships if you have any, tho note my DNW above--no men raping women). Torture, serious injury, child abuse (of Seon-ho specifically), Seon-ho's canonical substance abuse, lies and deception, gaslighting, murder, suicide attempts (tho please no successful suicide), slavery, humiliation, murder, major character death... if you're thinking of a fic and wondering "is it too dark" the answer is probably no, as long as it doesn't break my DNWs.
-On the other hand. Any fix-it fic where Seon-ho lives or any fic about Seon-ho just chilling, getting to have friends and be happy for a little while, is also quite nice. He deserves it.
-Seon-ho/Yeon--There's a part of me that wishes these two really had run away together after Hwi's supposed "death". I also think Yeon's crush is really cute and would love to see her get emboldened to pursue Seon-ho, while he would probably think he's bad for her and try to evade, especially during her amnesiac period.
-All these ships I enjoy as gen dynamics as well.
-Competent!Seon-ho fic! Seon-ho succeeding as an inspector. Seon-ho being really good at swordsfighting or archery. Seon-ho just being good at things in general. I want.
Some additional notes:
I'm open to Crueltide type fics for all these fandoms, and I think you can get an idea of what kinds of darkfic I'd be interested in from the prompts I gave.
I'm also open to art treats if you're doing the Wrapping Paper challenge. As regards art, I like limited palettes a lot. I like jewel tones, bold colors, black and white. I like period clothing. I like, for shippy art, couples kissing or about to kiss, dancing together, fighting each other (or fighting together), or just sitting around talking. I like characters alone, possibly looking angsty or lonely. And I quite like darkish art--both art with literally a dark color palette and art with dark themes, e.g. whumpy art, spooky backgrounds, perhaps a sense of menace or mystery.
In general, you can take these prompts as very optional. I just enjoy rambling on and on, and hope that I might spark some inspiration. If you already have an idea for the character/fandom we matched on, go for it! I'm excited to see what you'll come up with.

Circle is a 12-episode sci-fi kdrama about missing brothers, aliens, and memory-erasing technology. It's a bit hard to chase down online with English subtitles, but I believe you can watch it here. I love it for the angst! The lost memories angst, the trying to hunt down brothers angst, everything.
DNW: Bum Gyun/Woo Jin.
Some ideas:
-Woo Jin and Bum Gyun's life pre-canon. Bum Gyun obsessing over aliens before landing in jail, Woo Jin perhaps trying to moderate his behavior unsuccessfully. The angst when Bum Gyun ultimately does land in jail.
-Woo Jin and Joon Hyuk's life post-canon. How does Woo Jin integrate into a society twenty years advanced from what he remembers? How does he deal with being a clone--any identity crises going on there? Does Joon Hyuk actually start a bakery? Are they entrenched in a legal tangle with the collapse of Smart Earth (needed as witnesses against Human B, for example)? What's up with that possible new alien sighting? This is a show where I would enjoy either angst or fluff or both in this area.
-The utter weirdness that has to be Byul and Woo Jin's relationship post-canon. They say these two are reverting to their 2017 selves, but that time has passed--Byul is older now, with many new experiences, and while Woo Jin is the same he also literally isn't Woo Jin. I would love something exploring their non-apparent age gap, or Byul telling Woo Jin about what she's been up to since he's been gone.
-A Lee Ho Soo/Joon Hyuk fic. Ho Soo seducing Joon Hyuk for information during the time he's working for Human B. Explosions of angry sexual tension. The two of them commiserating over lost memories--or maybe Joon Hyuk finding technology in Human B that could return his, and Ho Soo supporting him through the process. Ho Soo dissing Joon Hyuk's baking skills. Joon Hyuk trying to convince Ho Soo to not wear literally only white (he's seen him in black, he knows it looks good). Or for more angst, what if Ho Soo really did have his memories of Joon Hyuk erased when he was taken in by Smart Earth security?

-Being honest I would also love ghost!Woo Jin haunting the shit out of Human B and occasionally appearing to his brother to be supportive.
The Flame's Daughter
Requesting: Any character(s) from the tagset (which is to say, Anye Luo, Yu Zihan, Dao Liexiang, and/or Lei Jinghong)
The Flame's Daughter is a 52-episode wuxia cdrama about feuding martial arts sects and a sect heiress caught in the middle of it all. It has cartoonishly evil and smug villains, all the whump you could wish for, beautiful costumes, and a fair amount of martial arts. You can watch it on Viki.
What I liked about this show was mostly its intrigue and its whump. Loved watching Anye Luo being extremely villainous and awful, Yu Zihan being stoic and smart and suffering, and Dao Liexiang and Lei Jinghong being terribly dysfunctional constantly. If you write a fic that is about Bad Things Happening to these people, that's probably a good bet. That said, I would also be up for any of them being happy post-canon (or in the case of Anye Luo, in an AU).
DNW: A focus on Yu Zihan pining for Lie Ruge (it's fine as background, just please not as the only plot), Anye Luo/Lie Ruge.
Some ideas:
-I shipped Anye Luo/Yu Zihan in the worst way. The mind games! Anye Luo has Yu Zihan cursed, and then kidnapped, and then poisoned, and later on imprisons and tortures him... but there's still some weird respect there for Yu Zihan's abilities. That rant he gives to Yu Zihan the first time they meet about how Yu Zihan deserves better, deserves to be emperor someday, is catnip to me--did he mean it? How exactly does he see Yu Zihan? Anyways I would be very interested in seeing these two manipulate each other or just in seeing Anye Luo do more awful things to Yu Zihan--what if he won? Would he have killed Yu Zihan off eventually, or continued holding him prisoner? Alternatively, AU where Anye Luo becomes sexually/romantically obsessed with Yu Zihan and it replaces his obsession with Anye Ming.
-Then there's Dao Liexiang and Lei Jinghong, the slightly less awful dysfunctional couple. I would love something between them set during the time when Lei Jinghong is basically a prisoner in Wu Dao City and Liexiang is pressuring him to marry her. How does he come to that decision? Does he resent her? I'd be up for dubcon within this timeframe in particular. Otherwise, I'd like to see them postcanon on an occasion where they're actually together; how long does it take them to fully reconcile and how do their sects see their relationship? I also shipped these two as an OT3 with Feng Huang, so if you want to include her, feel free--or for that matter, if you want to throw in Zhan Feng, and just explore ALL the awkward marriage dynamics, I'd be into it.
Apart from these couples:

-Lei Jinghong/Feng Huang--being together on the run, Feng Huang hiding Lei Jinghong at the Taste Flower Pavilion, etc.

-Lei Jinghong angsting over losing his position in his sect, over being wrongly accused. Lei Jinghong's conflicted relationship with Anye Jue, growing up or in the canon timeframe.
-Anye Luo being a creep to people who aren't Yu Zihan. Zhan Feng's a good candidate (some good old "you're my nephew/the son of the woman I loved but also the son of the man I hate" vibes, or maybe some sexual tension). So is Yin Xue (what the fuck is those two's history?). Frankly, this dude could be a creep to anyone.
-Yu Zihan coming out of seclusion post-canon. He can't sit around in seclusion forever; or rather, I don't want him to! Let him find a new love or make more friends or get entangled in politics supporting his brother or have to help restore Flaming Hills to its former glory. Let him eat sesame cakes and not cough blood as a result. Let him have some fun.
-I'm also curious about Yu Zihan's relationship with his brothers, both blood brothers and martial brothers. They don't seem exactly close--what bonds do they have, or if there is distance, what caused that distance?

-Seon-ho/Yeon--There's a part of me that wishes these two really had run away together after Hwi's supposed "death". I also think Yeon's crush is really cute and would love to see her get emboldened to pursue Seon-ho, while he would probably think he's bad for her and try to evade, especially during her amnesiac period.
-All these ships I enjoy as gen dynamics as well.
-Competent!Seon-ho fic! Seon-ho succeeding as an inspector. Seon-ho being really good at swordsfighting or archery. Seon-ho just being good at things in general. I want.

I'm open to Crueltide type fics for all these fandoms, and I think you can get an idea of what kinds of darkfic I'd be interested in from the prompts I gave.
I'm also open to art treats if you're doing the Wrapping Paper challenge. As regards art, I like limited palettes a lot. I like jewel tones, bold colors, black and white. I like period clothing. I like, for shippy art, couples kissing or about to kiss, dancing together, fighting each other (or fighting together), or just sitting around talking. I like characters alone, possibly looking angsty or lonely. And I quite like darkish art--both art with literally a dark color palette and art with dark themes, e.g. whumpy art, spooky backgrounds, perhaps a sense of menace or mystery.
In general, you can take these prompts as very optional. I just enjoy rambling on and on, and hope that I might spark some inspiration. If you already have an idea for the character/fandom we matched on, go for it! I'm excited to see what you'll come up with.
